    How to Replace a MAP Sensor on Subaru Outback? Posted by Customer

    When replacing the Manifold Absolute Pressure(MAP) sensor, disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal, remove the Idle Air Control (IAC) solenoid valve from the throttle body, and disconnect the electrical connector from the MAP sensor. Next, unscrew the MAP sensor from the throttle body, depress the release tab and disconnect the electrical connector from the MAP sensor, remove the MAP sensor mounting screws, remove and discard the old MAP sensor O-ring, install a new gasket when installing the IAC valve, install a new O-ring when installing the sensor. Installation is the reverse of removal.

    Before removing the IAT/MA sensor, you should disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal and disconnect the spark plug wires from the coil high tension terminals for the Nos. 2 and 4 cylinders.

    Disconnect the negative battery terminal cable, locate the MAP sensor on a small bracket in front of the intake manifold runner for the No. 1 cylinder, disconnect the electrical connector and vacuum hose from the MAP sensor, remove the mounting nut, remove the sensor, inspect the condition of the vacuum hose, and replace if necessary. Installation is the reverse of removal.
