    Q:
How to check and replace the turn signal/hazard flasher unit on Subaru Legacy? Posted by Customer
    A:
When the turn signal switch is actuated, the flasher unit activates the turn signal lights, while the hazard flasher switch causes all four turn signal lights to flash simultaneously. An audible click is heard when the flasher unit operates correctly; if the turn signals fail on one side and the clicking sound is absent or if the flashing is much more rapid than usual, a faulty turn signal bulb is likely. If both turn signals do not blink, the issue may stem from a blown fuse, a faulty flasher unit, a broken switch, or a loose or open connection. A quick check of the fuse box can reveal a blown turn signal fuse, and it is advisable to inspect the wiring for a short before replacing the fuse. To remove the flasher, take off the knee bolster and reinforcement panel behind it, unplug the electrical connector from the flasher unit, and then remove the mounting bolt, with installation being the reverse of removal.

    Q:
What is the function and location of the turn signal/hazard flasher unit on Subaru Outback? Posted by Customer
    A:
The turn signals flash when the signal switch is turned on. Once pushed down, the hazard flasher switch will flash all four turn signal lights at once. It is under the instrument panel on the driver's side. An audible click can be heard when it works properly. In case one side or other of the indicators does not work and there is no clicking sound from a flasher unit, then there's an indication of a defective turn signal bulb if flashes occur much more quickly than they normally do. When both turn signals fail to blink, the problem may be caused by a blown fuse, defective flasher unit, broken switch or a loose or open connection. Check the wiring for a short before installing a new fuse if a quick check of the fuse box reveals that the turn signal fuse has blown out. To remove this unit you must remove knee bolster and reinforcement panel behind it in order to unplug electrical connector from flasher unit, remove mounting bolt and remove unit as necessary. Note: Later models have an 8-pin module located in same area; installation is reverse of removal.
