Loosen front wheel lug nuts, block rear wheels, and raise the vehicle. Remove front wheels, detach brake hose from strut bracket, and mark upper strut-to-knuckle bolt. Remove ABS sensor from steering knuckle if present, and detach sensor lead. Mark upper camber adjustment bolt, then remove strut-to-knuckle nuts and bolts. In the engine compartment, remove strut-to-strut tower nuts. Support the strut while removing it. Position and install strut assembly, but don't tighten upper nuts. Insert steering knuckle into strut flange, install bolts, align marks, and tighten. Install ABS sensor if present, reattach brake hose bracket, install wheels, and lower vehicle. Tighten lug nuts and strut upper nuts. Check and adjust front end alignment if needed.

Installation is the reverse of removal. Use the jack to raise or lower the knuckle to align the hole in the shock with the hole in the knuckle, and ensure that all fasteners are tightened to the torque.

Slide the rubber bumper off the damper shaft and inspect it for cracking and hardness. If it is worn or damaged, replace it.

The manufacturer recommends using new self-locking mounting nuts when installing the strut assembly to the strut tower.

Grasp each front tire at the front and rear edges, push in at the front and pull out at the rear, feeling for play in the steering system components. If any freeplay is noted, check the idler arm and tie-rod ends for looseness.

Have an assistant support the strut, then remove the strut upper mounting nuts.

If the struts or coil springs exhibit signs such as leaking fluid, loss of damping capability, or if the coil springs are chipped, sagging, or cracked, they may need attention.

The steering linkage and suspension components should be checked periodically to ensure proper vehicle performance.
