    Q:
How to remove and install the airbag module and steering wheel on Subaru Legacy? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove the airbag module, park the vehicle with the wheels straight and disconnect the negative battery terminal. Disable the airbag system, then remove the airbag module from the steering wheel by taking out the mounting fasteners and carefully lifting the module away while disconnecting the electrical connectors, which have release tabs that need to be moved. Store the airbag module safely. Loosen the steering wheel retaining nut until it meets the end of the steering shaft but leave it on. Use a steering wheel puller to release the steering wheel from the shaft, ensuring the puller screw contacts the shaft without threading the bolts into the wheel more than five turns to avoid damaging the airbag clock spring. Once released, remove the puller and retaining nut, marking the relationship of the steering wheel hub to the shaft for reinstallation. Disconnect any remaining electrical connectors and lift the steering wheel off the shaft, feeding the wiring harness through the hole. Avoid turning the clockspring, steering shaft, or front wheels while the steering wheel is removed to prevent misalignment. If necessary to remove the clockspring, detach the steering column covers, unplug the electrical connectors, and remove it from the combination switch. For installation, ensure the airbag clockspring is centered with the wheels straight. If the shaft was turned, center the clockspring by rotating it clockwise until it stops and then counterclockwise about 2-3/4 turns until the small arrows align at the bottom. Installation follows the reverse order of removal, ensuring the clockspring is centered before installing the steering wheel, engaging the pins on the clockspring with the slots on the steering wheel hub while aligning the marks. Tighten the steering wheel nut to the specified torque, carefully install the airbag module on the steering wheel, tighten the mounting bolts to the torque values, and ensure all electrical connectors are properly connected before enabling the airbag system.

    A:
Conclude by enabling the airbag system. Always refer to the manufacturer's guidelines when working with airbag systems to ensure safety.
