    Q:
What are the necessary tools and steps for spark plug replacement on Subaru Impreza? Posted by Customer
    A:
In mainly cases, the tools required for change of spark plugs include a special ratchet socket, various extensions and gap gauge to check and adjust gaps on new plugs. . Use a torque wrench to tighten down the new plugs. The best way to replace spark plugs is through pre-purchasing new ones, adjusting them to correct gap and removing one plug at a time. For your specific engine, make sure you choose the correct type of plug when purchasing replacement spark plugs from an auto parts store. Wait until all heat has dissipated from the engine before turning off any plug that exists in it. These engines have aluminum cylinder heads which can be ruined if you take out these spark plugs while the engine is still hot. While waiting for the motor to become cold, inspect new plugs for defects and set their gaps correctly. The clearance is determined by inserting a feeler gauge of appropriate thickness between electrodes at the tip of the plug. The distance between electrodes must match that indicated on Emissions Control Information label. If this spacing is incorrect, use adjuster on gauge body to slightly bend side electrode towards curved side until desired clearance is achieved; or if side electrode does not correspond with center electrode exactly-change its position using adjuster of such kind as well Check for cracks in porcelain insulator On turbocharged engines remove battery and secondary air pump On non-turbocharged engines remove single wire attached to one spark plug Blow out with compressed air if available any dirt or other foreign material around spark plug hole Place socket over top of old plug turn counterclockwise and it will come right out After inspection compare appearance of your spark plug with those shown in chart to get some idea about general running condition Apply a little antiseize compound to threads of new plug It is often convenient when installing a plug into its hole by slipping hose over end so you can more easily start threading Install one of new plugs into hole until no longer possible turn by fingers and then tighten On turbocharged engines, inspect ignition coil before pushing it on end of plug. On non-turbocharged engines, inspect wire to the plug. Repeat this procedure for remaining spark plugs.

    Q:
What are the necessary tools and steps for spark plug replacement on Subaru Legacy? Posted by Customer
    A:
Typically, the following tools are needed when replacing a spark plug, a spark plug socket that fits into a ratchet, a range of extensions and also a gap gauge for checking and adjusting the new plugs. A torque wrench should be used to secure the new plugs. The best method of changing these components is to get them first, regulate their gaps accurately and then replace one after another. However, let the engine cool before taking out any of the old plugs. Look at all your new plugs for defects and alter their gaps if possible. You insert the proper-thickness gage between electrodes at the tip of the plug to check its gap. There should be equal distance between both electrodes as indicated. If it's wrong, use adjuster on gauge body to slightly bend curved side electrode until correct gap is achieved. If you have turbo engines, remove battery and battery tray too. When fitted take off engine cover first then eliminate air intake ducts plus resonator or air filter housing on models obstructing access to spark plugs locations. Start with detaching individual ignition coils from turbo engines so as to get access to spark plugs. After removing one wire from one non-turbo engine, blow off any dirt or other foreign material inside that space if you are lucky enough to have compressed air with you around this time! Put the spark plug socket over it in order to remove it from its place by turning it anti-clockwise. To get an idea about how your engine has been running generally examine your chart with respect to this particular spark plug alone .Apply just a little amount of anti-seize compound on screw end of plugs .At least put one of those fresh units into socket until manual grip strength fades away; after that tighten using an electric wrench or similar hand tool set.Rotate-push down onto coil after reaching lug ensuring not touching ignition points at all before snapping it onto this spot for however many more times.Remove each wire to be sure in the case of a non-turbo engine. Carry out these same steps on all the remaining ones.
