    Q:
What is the location and procedure for replacing the ECT sensor in Subaru Forester? Posted by Customer
    A:
The ECT sensor is located beneath the rear right intake manifold runner, just above the rear right part of the engine block for non-turbocharged models from 2000 to 2004. It is screwed into the backside of the coolant passage that's bolted to the top of the block. Disconnect negative battery terminal cable. Partially drain engine coolant below sensor level. Remove air intake duct and air filter housing. Disconnect ECT sensor electrical connector. Unscrew ECT sensor from coolant passage.Remove and replace.Authors must wrap Teflon tape around threads to prevent leakage of coolant at threads.Installation is just like removal.Fill cooling system back up with antifreeze. The ECT sensor on turbocharged models and 2005+ non-turbocharged models is situated under alternator, ontop of the engine block. Disconnect negative battery terminal cable.A portion of coolant should be drained to keep it lower than this sensors. The Engine Cover should be removed in Legacy and Outback Turbo Charged Models (from 2005) as well as Foresters (from 2006). Remove alternator if fitted.Disengage the electrical connector attached to this sensor.Unscrew out ECT Sensor. After removing it again, I must use Teflon tape around its thread points so that no more coolant comes out during installation. This step will reverse what has been done before.Refilling of cooling system should be done afterwards.
