    Q:
How do you remove the power steering pump from Subaru Legacy? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove the power steering pump from 2002 and earlier Forester models, begin to use a syringe to suck out the power steering fluid from the reservoir and then, the drivebelt pulley cover should be removed. Wrench the power steering pump pulley retaining nut anticlockwise to free it, then using a pin spanner tool to hold the pulley, slide off the drivebelt. Subsequently, remove the power steering pump pulley nut and pulley and then loosen the fluid line clamps and finally remove the fluid lines from the pump and reservoir. Take out the bolts at the front part of the pump; pull out the pump itself and unfasten the reservoir so as to eradicate the inner mounting bolts; one must ensure to put lots of wooden or plastic spacing on the clamp that holds the pump in a vice. For all other models, start by popping the drivebelt pulley cover or the engine cover and for the turbo models, the air intake duct should be removed. Unbolt the drivebelt, first disconnect the electrical facet of the switch, next unwind the fluid line clamps, and finally unhook the fluid line couplings to the pump. There are four bolts that hold the pump bracket and therefore, undervalue the four and pull out the above components jointly and properly arranging them in a vice. Loosen the front pump-to-mounting bracket bolts by going through the pulley then you have to pull off the rear mounting bolt and push the pump from the bracket. To install, reverse all removed steps, making sure that pump mounting fasteners and pulley are tightened to 2002 and earlier Forester models and other related components are securely fastened, new power steering fluid is added and before filling the power steering system, check for leaks and bleeding the fluid.
