    Q:
How to prepare and remove pistons and piston pins on Subaru Impreza? Posted by Customer
    A:
The crankshaft pulley bolt is temporarily installed at the front end of the crankshaft to allow for turning. If there is a wear ridge at the top of each cylinder, machine it out. The four service holes plugs are removed out using an Allen wrench so as to access piston pin circlips. In case the removing process becomes difficult for these plugs, soak them with penetrating oil and make sure that the tool completely fits into round off opening. By turning the crankshaft, place the piston at bottom dead center and remove its circlip with needle-nose pliers through these service holes. Through this service hole use either a special removal tool or a homemade one to pull out piston pins from inside them. Keep pistons and pins together; mark them for reinstallation purposes. Pistons can be left in the cylinder bores until separation of the crankcase or driven out by means of a wooden or plastic hammer handle; conversely, before separating the crankcase, pistons can be taken-out by slowly turning over onerous shaft till connecting rods push them just beyond their very slight movement limits thus inserting piston pins into such rods and then turn back cranks thus pushing pistons away from bores prior to pulling them outright.

    Q:
What is the procedure for removing the piston pin cir clips for the 2005 Subaru Forester? Posted by Customer
    A:
Position the piston at bottom dead center by turning the crankshaft. Then, insert needle-nose pliers through the service holes to remove the cir clips. Use a small flashlight to ensure the cir clip is positioned directly at the access hole, and make small movements of the crankshaft if needed to align the piston correctly.

    Q:
How do you install the piston pin cir clips for the 2002 Subaru Forester? Posted by Customer
    A:
Install new piston pin cir clips in the inner piston pin bore groove of each piston. Ensure the piston is positioned correctly and the cir clip is installed in the groove opposite the crankcase service hole when the piston is installed.

    Q:
Should the same procedure be repeated for pistons three and four for the 2009 Subaru Impreza? Posted by Customer
    A:
Yes, rotate the crankshaft until the number three and four connecting rods are at bottom dead center, aligning them with the center of the cylinder. Repeat the piston and pin installation procedure for pistons three and four.

    Q:
What should be done after installing the first piston for the 2000 Subaru Legacy? Posted by Customer
    A:
Repeat the procedure for the number two piston. Apply RTV sealant to the service hole plug gaskets and install the gaskets and plugs, tightening the plugs to the specified torque.

    Q:
What is the alternative method for removing the pistons before separating the crankcase for the 2004 Subaru Legacy? Posted by Customer
    A:
If desired, you can remove the pistons before separating the crankcase by following these steps: a) Turn the crankshaft very slowly until the connecting rods push the pistons out slightly. b) Insert the piston pins (clean and oil them first for easy installation) into the connecting rods through the service holes, then turn the crankshaft until the pin pushes the piston from the bore. c) Pull the pistons out.

    Q:
What should be done if a wear ridge is found for the 2006 Subaru Outback? Posted by Customer
    A:
    It should be machined out.

    Q:
How should the piston ring end gaps be positioned, and where should new piston pin circlips be installed for the 2021 Subaru Outback? Posted by Customer
    A:
Position the piston ring end gaps at the correct intervals around the piston. Install new piston pin circlips in the inner piston pin bore groove of each piston, ensuring the correct positioning and installation in the groove opposite the crankcase service hole.
