    Q:
How to Replace an A/C Condenser on a Subaru Legacy? Posted by Customer
    A:
Have an AC technician discharge and recover the refrigerant. Disconnect the battery, remove the air intake duct and radiator brackets. For certain Legacy and Forester models, remove the front grill. Disconnect and cap the refrigerant lines from the condenser. Remove the condenser bolts, lean the radiator back and remove the condenser. Drain the oil from the old condenser and add fresh oil to the new one. Lower the new condenser in place, ensuring lower guides are seated. Reverse the removal process for installation, using new O-rings coated with refrigerant oil. Tighten all bolts and fittings, use specific A/C O-rings, reconnect the battery, and have the system tested by an AC technician.

    Q:
How to Replace a Condenser on Subaru Outback? Posted by Customer
    A:
Have the refrigerant discharged and recovered by an air conditioning technician, disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal, remove the air intake duct from above the radiator, remove the radiator brackets, remove the front grille or front bumper cover, disconnect the refrigerant lines from the condenser and plug or cap all openings, remove the condenser mounting bolts, lean the radiator back and use the gap to carefully lift the condenser from its lower mounts to remove it, when installing a new condenser, drain the oil from the old condenser into a measured container and install that amount of fresh refrigerant oil into the new condenser, carefully lower the condenser in place between the radiator and the radiator support, make sure the lower guides on the condenser are properly seated in the mounts, installation is the reverse of removal, use new O-rings (lightly coated with fresh refrigerant oil) at the line fittings, tighten the compressor mounting bolts and line fittings. Caution: When replacing entire components, additional refrigerant oil should be added equal to the amount that is removed with the component being replaced. Read the label on the container before adding any oil to the system to confirm that it is compatible with the R-134a system. Note: The receiver-drier is integrated with the condenser and is not serviceable separately.
