How to remove and install the liftgate strut on Subaru Legacy?

The liftgate is heavy and somewhat awkward to hold, so at least two people should perform this procedure. Begin by opening the rear liftgate and supporting it securely. Next, remove the retaining bolts at both ends of the support strut and detach it from the vehicle by unscrewing the lower end of the liftgate strut from the body and then detaching the upper end from the liftgate, ensuring not to pry the spherical bearings loose as they cannot be removed that way. Finally, installation is the reverse of the removal process.
