Subaru Legacy Pilot Bearing Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to repalce Clutch Pilot Bearing on Subaru Legacy?
A: The clutch pilot bearing is a needle roller type bearing which is pressed into the rear of the crankshaft and does not require additional lubrication. It should be inspected whenever the clutch components are removed from the engine and replaced if any excessive wear, scoring, dryness, roughness or any other obvious damage is noted. Removal can be accomplished with a special puller or a slide hammer with an internal puller attachment. To install the new bearing, lightly lubricate the outside surface with grease and drive it into the recess with a soft-face hammer or a bearing driver or a socket that is slightly smaller than the outside diameter of the bearing. Some bearings have an 0-ring seal, which must face out. After installation, tighten all fasteners to the recommended torque values.
